The History Of…

We watch the History Channel often, myself more than Angie.  Sometimes she wonders just what it is that I find so fascinating about something like ‘The History of Mud”.  Oh yeah, this pic isn’t from History Channel.  But, well, it is mud… Mud bath

It has become sort of a joke between us, I’ll holler to her ‘Hey, Honey, hurry!  The ‘History of Mud’ is on again!’  Or, ‘The History of Worms’, or something like that.   Something representing a total bore, at least to most people.

What’s that got to do with this blog?  Read on and all will become clear.

So here I am recuperating (loafing) from minor surgery.  We’d hoped to spend a few days relaxing at Camp (first time this year!), get in some Beach time maybe.  But nooo,  Aside from lousy weather,  some issues came up on Angie’s side of the family that needed to be dealt with on a daily basis,  I made a trip up to Camp to get it ready for a son and family to use it for a couple days, we babysat grand-babies overnight (we’re too old to keep up with 1 and 2 year-olds, we found), then when we did actually get to Camp, we spent the day helping a neighbor construct a large screenhouse (a labor of love, she’s a good friend),  then began to relax.

Ran out of firewoodcamp '06 modified, getting chilly.  Time to move indoors and get warm.  Oh, oh, gas furnace isn’t working.  Changed gas tanks, no joy, empty too?  Decision time:  it’s late, cold, do we spend a half hour driving to town and back to get gas, or just drive 45 minutes home.  Ok, we’ll go get the gas.  After all, we’re here to relax, right?   Did so, hooked it up, furnace still doesn’t work.  Something wrong.

So we packed up and went home, late to bed, slept halfway through today.  Weather’s beautiful, we’re not at Camp or the Beach, and too undermotivated to even go sit on the deck and get some sun.

Graduation to go to tomorrow, maybe drive up to Camp Sunday to start removing a fence so I can get at the furnace to see if I can figure out if I can fix it.

Oh yeah, and there’s the possibility of a 150 mile round trip to help with another family issue.  So much for R&R.

Am I whining?  Of course.  Does not 99.9% of the world have a lot of worse problems?  Sure, but this is our life and blog so I can cry in my beer if I want to.  So there.

Now, you ask, what does this have to do with the ‘History of Mud’?  Well, you’ve just read  ‘The History of the Last Few Days’ and  I think it fits  the description of boring to most people.  The question is, why did you keep reading it?  Ah Ha!

If you have an answer to that, please let me know.  Then I can use your answer the next time Angie asks me why I just watched ‘The History of Gravel’.  ;-)    - Steve
