If You Can’t Say Something Nice…

“You have THE grossest nipples I have ever seen. I understand that you are a nudist and proud of your body and such, but really. Disgusting. – Anonymous”

Imagine waking up in the morning and checking into your various social media sites and finding this lovely little gem addressed to you!  What a great way to start the day!

Mary Clare is co-owner of Terra Cotta Inn, a clothing optional resort in Palm Springs, CA. and well-known around the internet nudist community.  She writes articles and posts photos relating to our lifestyle on several different websites and social media, doing her share to promote nudism as a healthy, comfortable lifestyle.   Her own image is often included and invariably presents a cheerful, happy picture of nudism.

And then there are Bozos like the one that left that comment.  We’ve seen them all over the ‘net; just look into any chat room, Facebook comment string, or in the comments to an article.  It doesn’t matter what the subject is, they always have the same response: negative.  Their goal is to hurt, not help.

These sad, lonely and friendless individuals are so full of anger and frustration about their own failure in life that all they can do is vent about others people’s perceived shortcomings.  They go straight to the attack hoping to inflict some damage before being booted out or made to look the fool by some other, more reasonable person.  The pain they cause others helps quell the pain they feel within themselves.  Self-loathing is a terrible thing.

In any event, we can’t do much about them other than ignore or remove their comments.  Their type of ‘contribution’ adds nothing to the discussion and their sickness cannot be cured by sharing it.

There are three articles attached below which address this issue and cover the bases pretty well.  Possibly nothing good will be accomplished by all this attention but then again, maybe it will give someone pause before they lash out at a stranger for no reason other than the desire to hurt.

After all, it’s pretty rude to walk into someone else’s living room when the door’s been left open for you, and start insulting the hosts.  Really, all we’re asking for is a little respect, ok?  Common courtesy, civil behavior.  Please?

  1. I can think of several occasions, mostly when I was much younger, when I made stupid comments that I thought were pretty funny at the time. I looked around expecting to see my friends laughing and smiling, but instead I was met by glares that clearly said, “What the hell is wrong with you?” I learned a lot from those glares.

I agree that it’s often best to delete, block, and band the evil little weasel, but sometimes throwing him the internet equivalent of, “What the hell is wrong with you?”, might reach someone. Maybe not the original idiot, but someone else down the line may take a moment think twice and post once.

You’re probably right. Most of these Bozos are too dense to reach, but you never know.

  2. They’re like trolls on FB; they serve no purpose other than to distract from the topic at hand. Lacking anything substantial to say, or even common courtesy, they use the anonymity afforded by the internet to let their demons loose.

It’s so cool how that same anonymity can free up a person to speak out in ways that their off-line personality might not, or to create an online persona more like the one they wish they possessed, but it does work both ways. Unrestrained by social convention and hidden from view, some folks use that freedom to act as they wish they could publicly but without consequence. Is it a safety valve or incitement to more, worse behavior?

I don’t know but suspect we’ll all find out sometime in the future. The more that someone sees their own ‘bad’ behavior shared by others of their ilk, the more encouraged they are to continue. One look around our world, especially on TV, and it’s pretty obvious that anger, meanness, nastiness and strife are all glorified in the name of ‘reality’, giving one a license to behave poorly simply because ‘everybody else is doing it’.

Great article you wrote, by the way. You need to be on FB or G+ to make it easier to keep track of you! In this go-fast age we expect things to arrive on our desktop, not have to go and look for them! 😉

  3. You’re probably right. “Please don’t feed the trolls” is a policy that has served me well since the my Usenet days, but sometimes it feels good to take one out to the woodshed for some attitude adjustment. Probably doesn’t do much good, but again, it feels good at the time.

Thanks for the kind words. I’m not much of a G+ user, but I did set up a Facebook page a few days ago. http://www.facebook.com/NothingToDread. I’m still smoothing out the creases, so I’m not promoting it much.

  7. I think you are beautiful. You are just as God made you. It takes a talent to be able to present yourself nude, and not look like porn. Stay just as you are…….natural and pretty.
