Nude in Barcelona – The Elephant Man

Aurel Manea Photography

SOME FOLKS, yours truly included, would love to spend their days naked, even when going about their business around town.  Well, this fellow seems that have managed to do just that, and has gotten mildly famous in the process!

Word has it that nobody knows his name, other than ‘The Elephant Man’ or simply ‘the naked old guy’.  He’s been wandering around town nude for years, sometimes with a ball cap and black sox, sometime on roller skates.  Rumored to be a practitioner of an Eastern religion,  he’s tattooed all over and even has tatted swim trunks!  He’s known to both yell at tourists and strike up conversations with strangers.  All in all, a guy who walks to the beat of his own drum!

He’s not the only naked man wandering around, but certainly the most famous locally.  Often photographed, he expresses dislike for being on camera.  You’d think he’d be used to it by now!

Add to the mix that Barcelona is trying to ‘clean up it’s act’ by banning scanty attire away from the beach.  tourists apparently are fond of strolling straight from the beach to places that the locals consider to be a bit less casual.  It seems odd that authorities would be concerned about bikinis in a mall when public nudity is legal in Barcelona!  Go figure!

No explanation has been put forward as to why he’s refferred to as the ‘Elephant Man’….

  2. I think people have the wrong idea about nudity. It feels good to go about without any clothes on. Probaly clothes were put on to keep warm, but some people made fun of others’ bodies so people covered up to keep from being taunted about their bodies. Everybody does not have a pretty face, so when are we going to have to wear mask to keep from being taunted? Keep up the good work by being nude!
